Bridal hair Secrets: expert advice every bride needs to know

When it comes to your wedding day look, your hair is just as important as your dress. It frames your face , ties your whole aesthetic together and let’s be honest, needs to last from ‘I do’ to the final dance! We recently sat down with Emma from Finesse Bridal Hair, who has nearly a decade in the industry uncover what really goes into creating the perfect bridal hairstyle. From trends and trails to prep and common mistakes, here is everything brides (and bridesmaids) need to know!

How brides actually choose their hairstyle

One of the biggest misconceptions? That brides walk in knowing exactly what they want. In reality, it’s a whole journey!

Many brides arrive with inspiration photos and a clear vision, but once they see the style on themselves, it doesn’t always feel right. And that is compeltlyly normal. Hair trials exist for a reason: to experiment, refine, and sometime pivot entirely. The trick is to have a vision, but stay open minded. The best styles often come from collaboration with your stylist.

The hair up or hair down dilemma

If you’re torn between wearing your hair up or down, here’s the simplest question to ask yourself.

How do I feel most like me?

Your wedding days isn’t the time to feel uncomfortable or self conscious. If oyu never wear your hair up, a dramatic undo might not feel right walking down he aisle. That said, try it anyway at your trail. you might surprise yourself!

Why hair trials are non negotiable

A hair trial isn’t just about finding a style that you love, it’s about the full experience! It allows you to test your chosen look, see how it lasts, build a relationship with you stylist, and also make changes without the pressure of it being your big day! Making sure you and your stylist are on the same page is so critical, you'll be spending all of your wedding morning with them, so getting that person right matters! Many stylists recommend one look per trial to avoid overwhelm and product build up, and suggest looking you trail 1-4 months before your wedding so that its a moe accurate representation to how your hair will be on the day! Plan your trial before a night out, or even use it for your hen do so you can properly test out the longevity!

The truth about dirty hair

Lets bust the biggest myth: Dirty hair is not better for styling!

Fresh clean hair is absolutely fine, your stylist will add the necessary products to create grip and hold. Ideal prep would be to wash your hair the night before and avoid arriving with very greasy, unwashed hair. In terms of hair prep, healthy hair makes all the difference. Leading up to your wedding, Emma recommends getting regular trims, reduce the amount of heat you’re using and focus on hydration and haircare.

Do you really need hair extensions?

Not always … but often yes! Even brides with naturally thick hair opt for extensions to add more volume, hold the style better and also create that trial finish which is hard to do with just natural hair! They’re not permanent, and you can use them long after the wedding. The typical cost varies between £115-£180 depending on the quality.

One the day itself, timing is key. Choosing a hairstylist who works closely with your makeup artist can make your wedding morning the smoothest exepriance. Expect around an hour per person, with extra time for detailed styles. Your stylists role isn’t just about creating a beautiful hairstyle, it’s guiding you honestly. For what suits your face shape to what will actually last all day, their expertise is invaluable.

So the best approach?

Have a vision, trust the process and trust your stylist! That’s how you get the look that not only photographs beautifully but feels completely like you!
